Collect the Areca trunk

We collected areca trunk, arranged from left to right: below the trunk, middle, above the trunk. Thick bottom, the center of the more loose. After cutting you will find that only keep the external hard parts.
Dent on the first half of the trunk. This is where the leaf sheath meets the trunk, and all nutrients are transported from the vascular bundle here to the leaf. When you pull the leaves open, there is a whisker-like vascular bundle in this place. So in the woody edge, there will be oblique vascular bundles and straight xylem staggered.

維管束

真實不是全部都均勻分布，靠近外圍的比較密集，中間的髓間只有些許散布的維管束。

我們知道一般樹木的水份是從樹皮層上傳，所以如果樹皮被去除，樹就會枯萎。我們看檳榔樹的維管束，靠近外圍比較細小，往內的比較粗；到中心部分就很稀少了。外圍構造是樹幹的堅硬部分，中間的部分是軟質的。當我們把樹幹切斷，可以發現中間的部分很快就腐爛，變成空洞化。所以，水份是從外維往上送，那中間的部分又有什麼作用呢?

檳榔樹

樹幹不分枝，高達12～15公尺。莖直徑約15公分，6-9枚葉簇生於莖的頂端。果實外皮堅硬，內含一百粒檳榔子。採收期約每年的八月底到隔年的六月，去皮煮沸處理曬乾後呈透明。咀嚼時可以蒟葉包覆，亦可生吃。檳榔花亦可食。

檳榔樹的壽命有六、七十年左右，其中以第十五年到三十五年是成熟期。其外形酷似椰子樹，一樣是樹幹通直、葉如鳳尾，幹上還有輪狀環紋。其花呈肉穗花序，自葉鞘下部抽出、單性，雌雄同株，雄花白色具有馥郁撲鼻的香味。
